Abstract

Background: Incised wounds are open injuries that cause tissue damage and trigger an inflammatory response. The wound healing process involves several stages: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Utilizing natural materials with biological activity is a potential approach to support tissue regeneration. Key lime (Citrus aurantiifolia) peel contains bioactive compounds—primarily flavonoids—while turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) rhizome is rich in curcuminoids. Both groups of compounds are known to possess antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties that may accelerate wound healing. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a combination of key lime peel and turmeric rhizome extracts on incised wound healing in male white mice (Mus musculus). Methods: An experimental study was conducted using 28 male white mice randomly divided into seven groups. The groups included a negative control (0.5% Na-CMC), a positive control (Bioplacenton), and five extract combination groups with the following ratios: K1 (100:0%), K2 (75:25%), K3 (50:50%), K4 (25:75%), and K5 (0:100%). Wound length on the mice's dorsum was observed over 14 days. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by the Tukey post-hoc test. Results: Administration of the key lime peel and turmeric rhizome extract combination significantly accelerated incised wound healing (p < 0.05). The K3 formula (50:50% ratio) demonstrated the greatest percentage of wound reduction and the most optimal healing effectiveness. Conclusion: The combination of key lime peel and turmeric rhizome extracts is effective in accelerating incised wound healing in male white mice, with the 50:50% formula serving as the most optimal combination.
