Nutritional problems in adolescents are a crucial public health issue because they have long-term impacts on the quality of human resources. Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) has emerged as a simpler and more practical alternative anthropometric measurement compared to body mass index for age (BMI/A) to assess nutritional status. This study aims to analyze the relationship between mid-upper arm circumference and nutritional status in adolescents aged 15-17 years at the Khazanah Kebajikan Islamic Boarding School. This study used an analytical cross-sectional design with a total sampling of 30 respondents. Anthropometric measurements were conducted using standard procedures. MUAC was measured using a non-elastic tape with an accuracy of 0.1 cm, while nutritional status was assessed based on BMI/A using the WHO 2007 standard. Data analysis used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0 with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that 66.7% of respondents had normal nutritional status, 20.0% were overweight, 10.0% were underweight, and 3.3% were malnourished. The MUAC measurements showed 60.0% normal and 40.0% abnormal. A chi-square test demonstrated a significant association between MUAC and nutritional status (p=0.019). Cross-tabulation analysis showed that all overnourished respondents had normal MUAC, while all undernourished and severely malnourished respondents had abnormal MUAC. This study confirms that MUAC can be used as a valid, practical, and efficient alternative screening indicator for detecting nutritional problems, particularly undernutrition, in adolescents in Islamic boarding schools.
