Abstract

Emergency services are a strategic hospital unit required to provide fast and accurate services amidst the increasing number of patient visits and administrative complexity. This situation has the potential to hinder service speed and impact patient safety if not managed optimally. Various studies confirm that integrated administration systems play a crucial role in supporting clinical decision-making and accelerating service flow in the Emergency Department (ED). However, the implementation of these systems is often suboptimal due to limited competency and understanding of staff as the primary users. In Indonesia, problems such as the lack of standard operating procedures and errors in administrative data input are still frequently encountered in the ED, reducing service efficiency. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of workshops in improving ED staff's understanding of integrated administration systems as an effort to accelerate patient care. The research method used was quantitative with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The study was conducted in the ED of Grandmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam, involving ED staff as respondents. The intervention, in the form of workshops, focused on understanding the integrated administration flow, system usage, and emergency service case simulations. The level of understanding was measured before and after the workshop using a structured instrument. The results showed a significant increase in staff's level of understanding after the workshop. The average comprehension score increased from 58.5 in the pretest to 82.3 in the posttest with a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: The workshop proved effective in improving ER staff's understanding of the integrated administration system. This increased understanding is an important foundation in accelerating the administrative flow and improving the quality of patient care in the hospital's Emergency Department.
