AI Usage Policy
1. Introduction
Jurnal Pengmas Kestra (JPK) recognizes the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, AI image generators, and other AI-assisted tools that may support manuscript preparation, editing, and scholarly publishing.
As a journal focusing on community service activities in the field of health sciences, JPK establishes this policy to maintain originality, transparency, information security, and integrity in scholarly publication.
JPK permits authors to use AI technologies in a limited and responsible manner while maintaining human intellectual responsibility. However, JPK strictly prohibits reviewers from using AI technologies in any part of the peer-review process to protect manuscript confidentiality, independence, objectivity, and the integrity of scholarly evaluation.
This policy applies to all Authors and Reviewers involved in the publication process of Jurnal Pengmas Kestra (JPK).
A. AI POLICY FOR AUTHORS
2. General Principles
Authors may use AI technologies as supporting tools during the preparation of community service manuscripts, provided that such use does not replace their intellectual contributions, actual implementation of community service activities, program evaluation, interpretation of outcomes, or responsibility for the manuscript.
All community service activities reported in submitted manuscripts must have been genuinely implemented and supported by reliable information, data, and documentation.
Authors remain fully responsible for all manuscript content, including any material generated, revised, or developed with AI assistance.
3. Permitted Uses of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI technologies in a limited and responsible manner to:
-
Improve grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and manuscript readability.
-
Translate manuscripts or sections of articles into other languages.
-
Assist with academic language editing and polishing.
-
Suggest improvements to manuscript structure and organization.
-
Summarize information or program evaluation results that have already been collected and independently verified by the authors.
-
Assist with processing community service evaluation data, including questionnaire results, pre-test and post-test scores, or program achievement indicators.
-
Suggest alternative ways of presenting information, tables, graphs, and program outcomes, provided that the authors carefully review and verify the results.
-
Assist in preparing educational materials or community health promotion resources, while ensuring the accuracy and reliability of health-related information.
Any AI use that affects evaluation methods, data processing, or reported outcomes must be transparently described in the manuscript.
All AI-generated outputs must be carefully reviewed, verified, and approved by the authors before being incorporated into the manuscript.
4. Prohibited Uses of AI by Authors
Authors must not use AI to:
-
Create or fabricate community service activities that were never actually conducted.
-
Generate fictitious participant data, attendance records, questionnaire results, or activity reports.
-
Manipulate pre-test or post-test results or program evaluation indicators to demonstrate achievements that did not occur.
-
Fabricate program implementation reports, intervention outcomes, or community impacts without supporting evidence.
-
Generate references, citations, or scientific sources that cannot be verified.
-
Create or manipulate photographs, activity documentation, or supporting images in a misleading manner.
-
Generate health-related information or scientific statements without verification against reliable sources.
-
Paraphrase existing materials solely to avoid plagiarism detection.
-
Conceal plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other forms of publication misconduct.
-
Generate substantial portions or an entire manuscript without adequate intellectual involvement from the authors.
-
List AI technologies, chatbots, or other AI systems as Authors or Co-Authors.
AI systems do not qualify for authorship because they cannot provide publication approval, disclose conflicts of interest, or assume responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of scholarly articles.
5. Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for ensuring that:
-
All reported community service activities were genuinely conducted.
-
Information regarding activity locations, dates, participants, community partners, implementation methods, and outcomes is accurate.
-
Program evaluation data and activity documentation are authentic and verifiable.
-
All references are valid and can be independently verified.
-
The manuscript is free from plagiarism, fabrication, and falsification.
-
Health-related information is accurate and does not mislead readers.
-
AI use does not violate copyright or intellectual property rights.
-
Personal information concerning community members, participants, or partners is not uploaded to AI services without a lawful basis and adequate safeguards.
-
The manuscript complies with all applicable publication ethics policies of JPK.
Any errors arising from AI use, including inaccurate information, fabricated references, bias, or incorrect interpretations, remain the full responsibility of the authors.
6. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of Generative AI or AI technologies that generate or substantially modify manuscript content.
The disclosure must include, at minimum:
-
The name of the AI application or technology.
-
The version or model used, if known.
-
The purpose of AI use.
-
The manuscript sections or components in which AI assistance was used.
-
The verification and review procedures performed by the authors.
The disclosure may be included in the Acknowledgements, Methods, or a dedicated Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies section.
Example of an AI Use Declaration:
Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies
During the preparation of this community service manuscript, the authors used [Name of AI Tool] for [Purpose of Use]. All AI-generated outputs were carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors. The authors take full responsibility for the accuracy of the information, authenticity of the community service activities, integrity of the reported outcomes, and overall content of the manuscript.
If AI is used for program evaluation data processing, analysis of community service outcomes, or essential components of implementation methods, its use must be clearly described in the Methods section.
Conventional automated tools used solely for basic spelling correction, simple grammar checking, or reference management without generating substantive content generally do not require disclosure unless otherwise determined by the Editor.

7. Prohibition of AI Use in Peer Review
Jurnal Pengmas Kestra (JPK) strictly prohibits all Reviewers from using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies during the peer-review process.
